Dear JFS Candidates, Recipients, Alumni and Supporters,
We are pleased to announce the Jefferies Family Scholarship award recipients for the 2008-2009 academic year (named in this newsletter). We had 70 students apply for the Jefferies Award of Merit and the $10,000 educational scholarship – a record number for the program and nearly double that of last year!
We would like to extend our thanks to all our applicants and to their families. We also congratulate this year's recipients and graduates for exhibiting outstanding achievements, both academic and non-academic, and the excellence we foster in our scholarship program and our Firm. As with every year, it was a competitive process, and, by regulation for charities of this type, scholarships can only be granted to one quarter of our applicants. We extend our sincere regrets to those candidates who will not be receiving assistance from JFS in the coming year but encourage them to continue working diligently and reapply for next year.
Now in its 28th year, the Jefferies Family Scholarship has granted more than 800 awards. While independent, this program is an important part of the Jefferies culture. With the rising costs of education and the Firm's continued expansion around the globe, this program continues to grow in importance, providing assistance and incentive for our next generation. Its success is entirely dependent on continued support and participation. The more applicants we have, the more scholarships we can give!

Sincerely,
