Jefferies Family Scholarship News
March 2009

All Eligible Students Are Encouraged to Apply!
Children of Jefferies employees planning to attend an accredited institution full time (including the last two years of private high school, as well as college or university for both graduate and undergraduate studies) are eligible to apply for an award. Awards are for one academic year.

New Recipient Policy
Beginning June 2009, a scholarship shall be awarded for a period of one year and shall not be subject to renewal; all applicants will apply as new applicants subject to all eligibility factors. Eligible students are encouraged to apply each year. Excellent students performing at their potential may be selected to receive a scholarship during one or more years of their educational career. This policy has been adopted in hopes of rewarding more students for their efforts by increasing the number of awards we may provide in the future.

For those scholarships awarded prior to June 2009, a scholarship will be awarded for the period of time that the student matriculates toward the degree program he or she is pursuing, without interruption, at the time the scholarship is initially awarded, subject to existing annual renewal requirements. Renewals shall not be denied for the reason that the recipient's parent is no longer employed by the company.

Help shape a future in 2009
In 2008 we received over $165,000 in donations from employees, scholarship recipients, recipients' parents and Jefferies. We thank all our donors for their generosity and ask that each of you consider making a donation to the scholarship program in 2009. Donating to the Jefferies Family Scholarship is an easy way to help make the high cost of college more affordable for many. Donors help ensure a future without limits for the children of Jefferies employees who receive an educational scholarship. We hope you will take the time to continue reading about what JFS is today, who benefits, and how you can become involved. The Jefferies Family Scholarship award offered me the opportunity to work in accord with others in a spirit of progressive cooperation in varied capacities, with reduced financial restraints. For this, my thankfulness is abundant. I will continue to be ever vigilant in aiding the general welfare of the community as I proudly embark on the journey of medical school. Thank you for your continued support and for playing a vital role in my academic and personal growth. I'm grateful for the chance the Jefferies Family Scholarship gave me to pursue goals that have given me confidence to try for the next. It has brought me one of the greatest medicines I hope to one day to administer to my patients.
