Renewals

Please see policy change at bottom of page.

The Selection Committee enjoys following the academic progress and personal growth of each scholarship recipient. When reviewing renewal applications, the Committee checks to see that the renewal applicant is in good standing with the school and that satisfactory academic progress is being made. The awards are renewable for the normal period of attendance required for degree completion. Renewals are not automatic, and it is the responsibility of the renewal applicant to see that all requirements are met. A renewal application must be complete with all information submitted clearly and precisely as requested on the renewal application by the deadline.

In an effort to ensure the highest standards of excellence, only recipients who maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher will be considered for renewal of their scholarship. Failure to provide documentation of grades may result in suspension of scholarship.

We encourage recipients to strive toward academic excellence and ask that the student work to his or her optimum. If grades do not reflect effort, we ask that the student seek assistance provided by school counselors and/or tutors.

After graduation or any other break in full-time matriculation, the scholarship recipient must apply as a new applicant.

To Renew:

1) Complete all portions of the online form, including the essays. Please note: You may revise your responses on the application form at any time up until the deadline. You may find it easier to write your essays and grades in Word, then cut and paste them into the appropriate section. By logging out or hitting the save data button, you automatically submit your application.

2) If an unofficial transcript or grade printout is available online, email it to Regina. If grades are not available online, then fax them along with any other pertinent material to Regina by the deadline.

3) When you are certain that your application is complete and that all revisions have been made to the online form, notify Regina via email that your application is complete. If you do not receive a response from her within five days, call her to confirm receipt.
Thank you.

Renewal Policy Change

Beginning June 2009, a scholarship shall be awarded for a period of one year and shall not be subject to renewal; all applicants will apply as new applicants subject to all eligibility factors. Eligible students are encouraged to apply each year. Excellent students performing at their potential may be selected to receive a scholarship during one or more years of their educational career. This policy has been adopted in hopes of rewarding more students for their efforts by increasing the number of awards we may provide in the future.

For those scholarships awarded prior to June 2009, a scholarship will be awarded for the period of time that the student matriculates toward the degree program he or she is pursuing, without interruption, at the time the scholarship is initially awarded, subject to existing annual renewal requirements. Renewals shall not be denied for the reason that the recipient's parent is no longer employed by the company.

In my last year of medical school, I am very grateful for the support I have received from the Jefferies Family Scholarship, which has helped me immensely both personally and academically. Not many accomplish special things in life without assistance, support, and love from others, and I intend to 'pass the torch' as one of my wise mentors has taught me. I look forward with enthusiasm to contributing to this fund down the road and helping other aspiring students.
