Educational Scholarships
Each year the Selection Committee carefully and thoughtfully reviews applications. These applications are presented anonymously so that the reviewers are unaware of the parent's name, title, department or office. From the total applicant pool, up to twenty-five percent of the applicants are selected to receive a monetary scholarship. Out of these fortunate winners, one is selected to receive the special honor of being named as the annual winner of the Alan Herrick Memorial Award. This memorial award is granted to the applicant whose attributes most resemble its namesake.
In 2006, scholarship winners received $10,000 each. As winners will attest, however, the scholarship is about more than just the monetary value attached to it. The scholarship provides tangible evidence for many that they are on the right path toward bettering themselves through education. It sends a strong message that a dedicated group of individuals believes in the scholarship recipient's goals, cares about him or her as an individual, and wants to help that person succeed in life.

Alan Herrick Memorial Award
The Alan Herrick Memorial Award was established in 1995 in memory of Alan Herrick, the son of former Jefferies & Company Director, Tracy G. Herrick. Alan was an outstanding student who was well rounded, spirited, and passionate in all his endeavors both in and out of the classroom. He was also a scholarship recipient during his work at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and his graduate studies at the California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland, California. This award is given each year to the applicant who best exhibits Alan's qualities of helping others and sportsmanship.

Jefferies Award of Merit
The board seeks to maintain the program's original intent of recognizing outstanding students, independent of their parent's financial resources. The Jefferies Award of Merit (JAM), similar to the National Honor Society, recognizes and rewards student excellence in and out of the classroom. The Jefferies Award of Merit is a prestigious award that winners are proud to list on their resumes and to display for years to come.
