Eligibility

To receive a scholarship, a student's parent or legal guardian must be a Jefferies employee working for the company on the date the scholarship is awarded. A scholarship is awarded for one year and students are encouraged to apply each year they are eligible to do so. Once awarded, a scholarship will not be terminated if the parent's employment terminates during the period of the scholarship, so long as the student remains academically eligible as detailed below. JFS does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, disability, ancestry, or religion.

Parameters
The program is intended to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a traditional educational path. The applicant must be matriculating full time at an accredited school having academically based admissions requirements for the following academic year. Deferral of the scholarship is not permitted for any reason (i.e., any break in matriculation will require that the recipient apply as a new applicant). The award program encompasses private high schools for grades 11 & 12, and college or universities for undergraduates and graduate students.

Special Circumstances Applicant
Beyond the criteria outlined above, an applicant with a documented challenge, such as a learning, emotional, intellectual, or physical disability, may apply for special consideration. Each such applicant must submit a physician's statement documenting the disability. If necessary under such circumstances, a parent may apply on a child's behalf, and would be encouraged to do so.

Renewal of Scholarship
Scholarships awarded prior to 2009 may be renewed each year. It is the policy of the Jefferies Family Scholarship that no applicant will be eligible for a renewal of the scholarship unless the applicant maintains a 2.5 or higher cumulative grade point average.

Duration
Scholarships are awarded for one academic year only. Scholarships awarded prior to 2009 may be renewed while a student pursues his or her course of matriculation uninterrupted. Renewal decisions are academically based and the scholarship cannot be terminated due to the parent of the recipient terminating employment with the Company subsequent to awarding of the scholarship regardless of the reasons for such termination of employment.

As a former beneficiary of the scholarship program, I am thrilled to be a part of this organization providing the children of Jefferies employees with assistance and encouragement as they pursue their academic goals. Winning the scholarship allowed me to focus on my studies and participate in a 3-year internship in sports medicine while obtaining my undergraduate degree in psychology and graduate degree in education.
