Selection Process
All Award Winners are chosen by an independent committee that is separate from Jefferies Financial Group Inc. Jefferies Family Scholarship Selection Committee reviews all eligible applications, but does not take into account factors relating to the employment of the applicant’s parent and the business of the Company. Applications are presented to the committee anonymously. For selection committee members, all identifying information for applicants (e.g., name, parent’s position with Jefferies) is removed prior to presentation of applicant data; applicants are discussed by randomly assigned numbers during the selection committee meeting.
The scholarship is awarded for one academic year only. Receiving the scholarship in any given year neither increases nor decreases the likelihood that the selection committee will select the applicant to receive an award in subsequent years. Announcement of scholarship recipients are made within two weeks of the selection meeting.

This program has truly been a labor of love for Boyd, Carrera, myself and all of the friends who have so diligently served on the Board and Selection committees. We all realized quickly that when you devote your time and efforts to helping others, you truly benefit from the satisfaction of enhancing another life. It is a special privilege to be a part of this program and have an impact on the lives of the children of Jefferies employees.
