Welcome & Instructions

Welcome to the Jefferies Family Scholarship Online Application.

Please read and click links to learn more about the program. If you are eligible, we hope you will apply.

Please follow the instructions carefully for providing information in support of your application and provide only required information.  The Jefferies Family Scholarship on-line application only requests information that it needs to evaluate and administer scholarships. Please do not upload social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, bank account information, passport numbers/information, taxpayer identification numbers, patient identification numbers, medical records or information, or any financial account information including banking or credit card information. JFS will never ask you to provide this type of information and will never request personal information over the phone or email.

You should be aware that this is a competitive scholarship program. If you are selected to receive an award, scholarship funds can only be used to offset the cost of qualified educational expenses and are payable to a qualified institution. Awards are limited to one per person per year.

Please communicate with your parent about your intentions for applying. If you hope to win a $12,500 scholarship, you will need your parent’s assistance. If you are applying for a $3,000 award, then please tell your parent this so they will not waste time and effort completing the Parent’s Financial Statement.

To help you submit a quality application, we want you to make you aware of the methodology employed in the selection process.

All applications are presented anonymously to a committee made up of individuals who are independent from Jefferies. The JFS Selection Committee rates each application based on five factors. In order to understand the importance each factor plays in the selection process, the following lists the relative percentage weight for each factor:

  • 30%  Academic Evaluation
  • 10%  Essay
  • 5%    Extras – Outside the Classroom
    • Extracurricular Activities
    • Leadership & Achievement
    • Work History
    • Experiences when not in school
  • 5%    Special Circumstances
  • 50%  Financial Need

At the time of application, your grades/marks/test scores, and level of involvement outside the classroom are already firmly established. The essay, however, is something that you have control over as you thoughtfully compose it. Because the essay carries a fair amount of weight, we urge you to put an appropriate amount of time and energy into preparing your response so that the committee will gain a clear picture of who you are.

Thank you,

The Jefferies Family Scholarship Team
