Privacy Policy
At the Jefferies Family Scholarship we respect your privacy. We recognize that when you apply for a scholarship you and your family share personal information with us. We want you to understand the types of information we are collecting and what may happen once you provide it to us. Information you share with us will be used in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect and How We Use It
When you fill out an application through our web site you provide certain information such as the student’s and parent’s name, address, school the student is attending and other biographical information. In the course of applying for a scholarship you and your family will also be asked to provide the student’s grades. The Jefferies Family Scholarship is proud of the achievements of students receiving awards. We have a tradition of publicly announcing all award winners. By logging on and setting up an application account, you grant permission to the Jefferies Family Scholarship to announce your name, as well as your parent’s name, if you are selected as a winner.
Through an independent third party organization you will be asked to provide information about your family’s income, assets and financial holdings. The independent third party, School and Student Services by the National Association of Independent Schools, collects information in accordance with their privacy policy which is available to review at http://sssbynais.org/privacy-and-security. Through the application process we may also obtain access to the student’s and the student’s family’s nonpublic personal information. The information collected is compiled in a database and presented to the JFS Selection Committee to evaluate scholarship applications. If a scholarship is awarded, biographical and academic information is compiled on an ongoing basis to administer the scholarship and analyze renewal information.
Information We Disclose
It is JFS’ policy not to disclose any of your or your family’s nonpublic personal information to third parties without your consent, unless those parties are providing services or support to us and have agreed to keep your nonpublic personal information confidential. Third parties who may have access to your information include technical support whose job is to format and prepare the database of applications, accountants or legal advisors. All scholarship applications are considered anonymously. As a result, when your nonpublic personal information is shared with the JFS Selection Committee it is done so by reference to a random number designation only and not with reference to information which would identify you or your family. JFS and its authorized third party contractors will not disclose any of your personally identifiable information other than as described above, except to the extent that such disclosure is required by law for example in response to a lawful subpoena, court order or similar legal requirement.
Protecting Your Information
JFS protects your nonpublic information from access by third parties by maintaining physical, electronic and procedural safeguards. We limit access to your information to those in the organization who are trained in the proper handling of nonpublic personal information and who need access to the information to perform their duties for the organization.
Your California Privacy Rights
