Eligibility

To receive a scholarship, a student’s parent or legal guardian must be an employee of Jefferies Financial Group Inc. and its subsidiaries working for the company on the date the scholarship is awarded. Adopted, biological and step-children are all eligible to apply. A scholarship is awarded for one year, and students are encouraged to apply each year they are eligible to do so. Once awarded, a scholarship will not be terminated if the parent’s employment terminates during the period of the scholarship, so long as the student remains academically eligible as detailed below. JFS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, or any other status protected by law.

Parameters
The applicant must be matriculating full-time at an accredited school having academically based admissions requirements for the following academic year. Deferral of the scholarship is not permitted for any reason (i.e., any break in matriculation will require that the recipient applies as a new applicant). The award program encompasses private high schools for grades 11 & 12, and college or universities for undergraduates and graduate students.

Special Consideration Applicant
Beyond the criteria outlined above, any applicant needing assistance may contact the program coordinator to request help. Those unable to complete the application on their own may seek assistance from a parent or other adult. If necessary, a parent may apply on a child’s behalf.

Renewal of Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded for one year, however, recipients may apply to renew their scholarship through graduation or a maximum of four years, provided academic requirements continue to be met. It is the policy of the Jefferies Family Scholarship that no applicant will be eligible for a renewal of the scholarship unless the applicant maintains a 2.5 or higher cumulative grade point average. Renewal decisions are academically based and the scholarship cannot be terminated due to the parent of the recipient terminating employment with the Company subsequent to awarding of the scholarship regardless of the reasons for such termination of employment.

Duration
Scholarships are awarded for one academic year only. Recipients who attend full-time, uninterrupted may apply for scholarship renewal while matriculating toward their current degree program—for up to four (4) years. After any break in full-time attendance, graduation, or receipt of the scholarship for four years, students who plan to continue their academic studies may apply again as a new applicant.

My son and daughter were both beneficiaries of the Jefferies Family Scholarship throughout private high schools and universities. They both received an excellent education and have found jobs they love. The gift of higher education from the universities of their choosing would not have been a possibility without the assistance of the program. As a single working mother, my children and I will be forever grateful.
